Happy Hanukkah!

December is full of anniversaries, religious holidays, and traditional festivals. This month offers numerous opportunities to close the gap; the more people learn about other customs and cultures, the smaller the gap is that typically creates an obstacle, conflict, or even fear between cultures. Hanukkah is one of these opportunities. This holiday, which begins at sundown tomorrow, is a celebration of light, endurance, and rebuilding. These themes can be applied to any individual, group, or community. Hanukkah offers non-Jewish students the chance to study another culture as well as to appreciate cultural differences in a fun way. Teach-nology.com, “The Web Portal for Educators,” offers a myriad of free Hanukkah resources categorized by activity, skill, and age categories. While you are there, check out their wide collection of free teaching materials on other December holidays, as well as math, science, social studies, and more.
