Turn off TV, turn on life!

Watching television in moderation can be a terrific way to relax, keep up with current events, and even to learn. However, an excess of TV can inhibit children's healthy growth and development. By substituting other activities for television we can alleviate some of the most critical problems facing our youth today: obesity, low physical activity, poor reading skills, lack of pro-social skills, and even violent behaviors. From today through April 25th, the TV-Turnoff Network is sponsoring its 10th annual TV-Turnoff Week to encourage Americans to make television a much smaller part of their lives and spend their time in more positive ways. From reading to volunteering, exercising to spending time with our families, there are so many healthy alternatives to watching TV. Visit the TV-Turnoff Network's Web site today for important and perhaps surprising information about our "TV habit" as well as valuable tips and advice for how teachers and parents can celebrate TV-Turnoff Week and encourage young people to "turn off TV and turn on life!"
