Overview

Extreme violence has claimed the lives of more than 300 people in America’s schools since 1992, most of these were schoolchildren. In response to this disturbing national problem, the Hamilton Fish Institute was founded in 1997, with assistance from Congress, to provide national leadership in the effort to turn the tide against violence and to promote a safer learning environment for our children.

The Hamilton Fish Institute will present “Safe Schools for the 21st Century,” a national conference dedicated to providing a setting for professional collaboration among researchers and practitioners with a focus on school and community violence prevention. In addition, the conference will provide an essential venue for disseminating the latest research on effective practices. The conference will be held June 19-21, 2002 in beautiful Monterey, California.
